China is easily the largest and most populous country in the Far East. It has been the most populous country in the world for several centuries, and its unique blend of history (ancient and recent), culture, and technological prowess has made it one of the economic powerhouses of the world. It has been calculated that China currently has the largest economy in the world, with a significant amount of all manufactured goods – from consumer electronics to garments to even toys – being produced in the country. The vastness of the country and its natural resources, along with a homogenised culture has made China not just an economic giant, but one well worth visiting too.

China’s capital Beijing is one of the world’s most heavily populated cities, and is home to several cultural attractions, the most notable being the forbidden city, the seat of the Emperors of China until they were deposed. Beijing is also home to a vast number of places of special interest, including museums, galleries, parks, and shopping areas on par with the best in the world.

Among the most famous attractions in China are the Great Wall of China, built to protect the northern border of the country from Mongol invasions; and the terra-cotta army, a set of life-sized terra-cotta figurines that originally guarded the tomb of a great emperor.

In China, you will find that the local cuisine changes from region to region based on the resources found in the area traditionally.
